Anatomy of the Central Nervous SystemThe cerebral hemispheres form the largest part of the brain, occupying the anterior and middle cranial fossae in the skull and extending backwards over the tentorium cerebelli. They are made up of the cerebral cortex, the basal ganglia, tracts of synaptic connections, and the ventricles containing CSF.
Nervous System
The Vertebrate
Nervous System receives stimuli from receptors & transmits information
to effectors that respond to stimulation and regulates behavior by
integrating incoming sensory information with stored information (the
results of past experience) & translating that into action by way of
effectors.
Functions of the Nervous SystemInternal or cellular respiration is the process by which glucose or other small molecules are oxidized to produce energy: this requires oxygen and generates carbon dioxide. External respiration (breathing) involves simply the stage of taking oxygen from the air and returning carbon dioxide to it.
