Renal System AnatomyThe kidneys regulate the volume and concentration of fluids in the body by producing urine. Urine is produced in a process called glomerular filtration, which is the removal of waste products, minerals, and water from the blood. The kidneys maintain the volume and concentration of urine by filtering waste products and reabsorbing useful substances and water from the blood.
Renal SystemThe kidneys are essentially regulatory organs which maintain the volume and composition of body fluid by filtration of the blood and selective re-absorption or secretion of filtered solutes.
Anatomy of the Kidney and UreterEach kidney or ureter is considered a separate primary, unless bilateral involvement is stated to be metastatic from one side to the other (exception: bilateral Wilms tumor of the kidney).
