Creative Writing Certificate Program
Proofreaders' MarksMarks used by proofreaders to indicate changes that should be made to a document.
Is editing the same thing as proofreading? Not exactly.
Although many people use the terms interchangeably, editing and
proofreading are two different stages of the revision process. Both
demand close and careful reading, but they focus on different aspects of
the writing and employ different techniques. Proofreading is primarily about searching your writing for errors, both grammatical and typographical, before submitting your paper for an audience (a teacher, a publisher, etc.). Use this resource to help you find and fix common errors.
Proofreading is not an innate ability; it is an acquired skill. The following exercises will help you master it, or at any rate will impress you with how difficult it is.
